Three persons have been confirmed dead in Akyem Akooko, a town in the Eastern region after violent clashes Tuesday.
Ten others including some police officers have sustained injuries and have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Eastern regional police commander DCOP Yaagy Akuriba also confirmed to Starr News 15 people have been arrested in connection with the riot.
Starr News’ Eastern regional correspondent Kojo Ansah reports that the town is in a state of anarchy after angry residents attacked a shrine and set it ablaze.
The residents also set some cars on fire in the streets.
According to Ansah, the residents claim that the fetish priest has been murdering people for rituals and attempts to haul him before traditional rulers of the town and query him have proved futile.
A joint team of Police and military personnel have been deployed to the town to maintain law and order.
