NDC adopts universal suffrage for presidential, parliamentary primaries

Every registered member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will have the opportunity to vote in the party’s upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries.

This is because the party’s national executive body today, Thursday August 13 voted to scrap the Electoral College that existed.

Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan who monitored the voting said the idea was initially opposed by the party’s members of parliament who feared it will be inimical to their electoral fortunes.

But Alhassan said the vote in support of the decision was overwhelming. The party has also set November 7, 2015 for both the presidential and parliamentary primaries.

Both President John Mahama and his vice Kwesi Amissah-Arthur attended today’s meeting which was chaired by the general secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
