Presidential Staffer Dr. Clement Apaak has described the newly appointed chairperson of the electoral commission Charlotte Osei as a “tough cookie” who cannot be pushed around.
According to him, although the various political parties have publicly welcomed her appointment, there appears to be a deliberate ploy by some individuals to praise and denigrate her at the same time.
“Even though the parties have openly welcomed her and expressed confidence in her capabilities, it appears there is a game going on; where people are commending her in public but are at the same time hiding behind some groups to criticise her.
“But let me tell them, Mrs. Charlotte Osei is a tough cookie who cannot be pushed around. It is obvious the President and the Council of State made a good choice,” he stated on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji Saturday.
The lawyer and mother of two has been appointed the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana by President John Mahama.
Until her appointment, Mrs. Osei was the chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
She becomes the first woman head of the electoral body and her first major assignment is to oversee the September 1, 2015 District Assembly Elections.
