Parts of the Cape Coast municipality in the Central region have been flooded following Sunday’s heavy downpour.
A number of people have been displaced after their homes were submerged in the rains that persisted for several hours.
The rainstorm also destroyed properties in some schools in the area.
The coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for the area Daniel Amartey told Starr News the topography of the municipality makes it susceptible to floods.
“Cape Coast is somewhat a hilly area and you expect that once it rains, the rains will descend and pass through the township,” he said.
He is therefore calling on the various district assemblies in the area to assist NADMO in embarking on pre-flood exercises before the rains set in.
The development comes almost two weeks after the rain and fire disaster that claimed over 150 lives in Accra.
