Brigadier Gen. Quartey: I’ll transform MMT

The acting Managing Director, (MD), of the Metro Mass Transit Services limited, Brigadier General (retired) Ishmael Ben Quartey has vowed to transform the operations of the transport company within the shortest possible time.

Quartey told workers Monday, January 19, that his aim is to make the state-run company efficient.

“In transforming the operations of this company, we have to look at efficiency; we need to look at reliability; we need to look at affordability, and then make sure that we make MMTL the first transport organisation in Ghana,” the retired army officer said when he met the workers for the first time since his appointment by President Mahama.

He added “Nobody knows how long this investigation is going to take; we will hope that it will be finished soon but then I am coming with a vision to transform the operations of this company.”

Former Managing Director Noble John Appiah together with his deputy, John Awuku Dzuazah, was asked to step aside for investigations into allegations by the workers to be conducted.

The board of the company was also dissolved after the workers embarked on a demonstration last Thursday to demand the resignation of the board chairman and other top officials of the company.
