SPEECH DELIVERED ON OCCASION OF INAUGURATION OF KORLE BU BOARD
Date: September 16, 2014
Anthony Mawuli Sallar, PhD
Honorable Minister of Health Dr. KwakuAgyeman-Mensah, Deputy Minister of Health, officials from the Presidency, distinguished invited guests, fellow board members, members of the media, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the (other members of the) Board, I wish to express my deep seated gratitude to the President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama and his councillors in having confidence in us to appoint us as members of the Board of Ghana’s (premier) flagship hospital and referral center, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
We are fully aware of the onerous responsibilities that face us but we are confident that with adequate planning, dedication and commitment we will weather the storm and make Korle Bu, the hospital of choice and an excellent referral Centre on the continent. With the Chief Executive steering the affairs, and the board playing its meaningful role of oversight and policy (and the dedicated staff of Korle Bu, (from cleaners to drivers, pharmacists, accountants and medical personnel—nurses, doctors etc, the users of the facility, the students and other stakeholders of Korle Bu) all playing their diverse roles, I am confident that when all is said and done, Korle Bu will deliver the best healthcare, training of health personnel and be a Center of Excellence in all its spheres of operation.
Let today September 16th 2014, be the defining moment and the watershed date when people will point out and say we all made a difference. When we look back 5 years, 10 years, 15 years from now we should be proud that we have collectively made a difference and all the indicators are what we all strove to achieve and we achieved them.
In the coming days we would meet and with the CEO and later others in the Hospital all in a bid to make a difference. The vision, strategy and tactics coupled with motivation, necessary controls and needed parameters and guidelines provided by all and sundry, will begin to put Korle Bu on the road to greater heights. Let us build on what others have done and let the dream of the founders and others live on from now to generations unborn where striving to reach excellence becomes the clarion call.
Let us all strive to make President John Mahama proud that he made the right choices. Let the dedicated staff of Korle Bu, the patients who use the facility, let the people of Ghana through our work know we are a fresh breath to Korle Bu. The time is now and this golden opportunity, should we miss it, posterity may not forgive us. Let us go and make a difference.
I would like to assure you on behalf of my fellow Board members that we promise to deliver to the very best of our ability and also to be the difference and the change that we want in Korle Bu.
Thank you all.
