Akufo-Addo: NDC’s Better Ghana agenda is ‘empty and cynical’ slogan

The 2012 flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has described the better Ghana agenda slogan of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) as nothing to write home about.

“The better Ghana they promised in 2008 and repeated in 2012 remains an empty and cynical slogan as is their (E dey biii kƐkƐ).”

At a ceremony in Accra to launch his campaign for a third succesive bid for the NPP’s flagbearership, Nana Akufo-Addo said the Mahama-led administration cannot boast of a better Ghana when access to healthcare has worsened than it was a year ago.

According to him the worsening state of the country’s currency cannot be said to be an improvement in the economy and a better life of its people.

“There can be no better Ghana when our young people can’t find jobs, when the leadership of the country has lost touch of the concerns of the people and dancing to the tune ‘yen tie obia’.

The country he says can only be cured from the current crisis facing it by a competent and dynamic team with a programme for determined implementation under the leadership of a person with a clear vision of Ghana’s future.

He says the current nationwide demonstrations are manifestations of the government’s failure to tackle issues affecting people in the country.

“The people have lost hope in the NDC and president Mahama, this is clearly evident in the unprecedented nationwide demonstrations that have rocked the country recently”.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo is among seven members of the party who have picked up forms to contest the 2016 flag bearer ship race of the NPP.

The others are Alan Kyeremanteng, Dr Kofi Apraku, Francis Addai Nimo, Joe Ghartey, Kofi Osei Ameyaw, and Stephen Asamoah Boateng.

Meanwhile some NPP bigwigs and members of parliament have openly declared their support for Nana Addo and were present at the launch.

The Regional Chairman of the NPP in the Greater Accra Region who was also present at the launch , Mr. Ishmael Ashitey, appealed to the people in the region to support the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo bacuse “times are changing in Ghana.”

He said: “The primaries is not our concern” adding that “we are focusing on the 2016 election because it is a done deal for Nana Akufo-Addo”:.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey who  recounted how she was ridiculed when she indicated that over 100 NPP MPs support Nana Addo said: “What you are seeing here today is a clear sign, genuine support. Our hope is Nana Addo.

“We are MPs who listen to the grassroots and listen to the people we represent. From all parts of the country, everybody you meet is saying they want Nana Akufo-Addo,” she added.
